KIDIST (Literally, HOLY)

Welcome to the second Sunday of the church called KIDIST to mean HOLY . It is named so because Scriptures sung and read as of the eve of the Sunday have to do with HOLINESS . Scriptures of the Hymnist St. Yared that he has composed for the day have, among others, the following statements:

•  Holy is this day

•  Holy is the sabath day on which I took rest

•  Be Holy as I am also Holy

•  The Father has made this Sunday Holy.

Thus, focus is given to singing in praise of the sabath day Christians. it reminds believers that the day is blessed for Christians to have rest from worldly engagements to give their utmost attention to spiritual services. The day is sanctified both in the old and the New Testaments.

The name KIDIST is also meant to remind believers that they shall be holy as their Lord is a Holy One.

Both Old and New Testamental scriptures treat the issue of holiness very emphatically:

Gen 2:3 ... Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because in it He rested from all His work which He had created and made.

Exod: 20:8,11 .. Remember the Sabath day to keep it Holy..... for in six days the Lord made the Heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them and rested the Seventh day. Therefore, the Lord blessed sabath day and hallowed it.

Lev. 19:2 .... You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am Holy.

1 Pet. 1:15..... As He who called you is Holy you also be holy in all your coduct......

1 Tes. 4:7-8 .... God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. Therefore, he who rejects this (message of holiness) does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.

Acts. 10:34-45 ... In truth, I perceive that God shows no practicality.... Can anyone forbid water that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?

Matt. 6:16 .... When you fast, do not be like the hypocrites with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting ... But you, when you fast, annoint your head and wash your face so that you do not appear to men to be fasting but to your Father who is in the secret place, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

Note : - Metaphorically, to annoint one's head and wash one's face means to be holy.

Ps. 96:5-6 ... But the Lord made the Heavens, Honor and Majesty are before Him, Holiness and Strength are in His sanctuary.

Let the Lord bless our fast to make this hectic world a holy one. And, see you on MIKURAB , the third Sunday of the Lent. Amen!!

God bless us all !! Amen!!
