She has found the True Cross

Only putting Christ on the Cross did not satisfy dissidents. After they crucified Christ, the cross on which they put him made them restless because it was making miracles. Enemies of the Gospel found the cross`s power of healing the sick /the lame, the leprous, the dumb, the epileptic, etc. /and of raising the dead, extremely intolerable.

So, the enemies, of Truth thought to cut that short by throwing the Holy cross into a garbage. They implemented this demonic intent and ordered all to heap whatever dirt they had and, having continued for centuries, that place was transformed into a hill. Christians of the time had to wait for the due time to get back their dearest possession upon which the Devil was beaten to liberate them. As they were being busily harassed for their creed, they could not have the opportunity to look for the cross.

Thanks God, in 323 A.D. Constantine, the son of a devoted Christian named Helena (Eleni) became the emperor of Byzantium. His mother took the opportunity to find cross. The story that the cross is buried under one of the many hills in Jerusalem was there. But Eleni could not know which of the hills she has to excavate. As she consulted Kirakos, a devoted father of her time, he advised her to lit a bonefire the smoke of which will bow down to the specific hill she was looking for. She did as advised and it so happened that the smoke first rose high into the sky. Then, it bowed down to one hill, which thereafter was dug down to its belly. Three crosses were discovered. Eleni and her fellows were puzzled on how to know the true cross of Christ. However, they soon remembered that the cross was buried because of its wonders. Eleni and her fellows decided, therefore, to sort out the True cross through miracles. One of the crosses which managed to raise the dead was certified to be Christ`s cross. The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church commemorates this grand discovery on the 17 th of the month of Meskerem /28 th of September/ every year.

Praise be to God. Amen!!
