A House in Brucline Sees Holy Mother's Miracle

A house in Brucline, North America, is seeing the miracle of the Holy Virgin Mother, it has been learnt. Peter Butros is a Coptic Christian living in the town. He has in his premise an Icon of the Mother which he has brought from Egypt, his homeland. All of a sudden, the Icon is oozing an odourless oil as of February 11 , 2007. It was peter's daughter who first saw this miracle. Journalists of different media and nearby residents have also managed to see the wonder.

It has been indicated that the amount of oil harvested reached two galoons just in two days time. Those who saw the miracle were declaring their faith in what they see and were also smearing their organs hoping to get the “The Mother did such a miracle to assert that she is always with us,” peter has commented. His Grace Abune Marcos, the Coptic Bishop of the town, has held a prayer in peter's house.

Accompanied by dozens of residents, the Icon has been transferred to the Coptic church of St. Mark in the town. A professional painter working for a company called Natal is said to have observed the Icon and he was asked to make a professional comment. ² I really do not know, it is my first time to see such a miracle, ² the Artist is quoted to have said.

Jaxi personnel's spiritual assembly started

A spiritual assembly, organized by the Birhanate Alem petros wepaulos Sunday School, has been launched for taxi drivers, their assistants /conductors/ and turn-observers, it was learnt. The opening assembly was attended by thousands of taxi personnel from different corners of Addis ababa under the theme ² The gospel to all ² . This assembly which was colourfully launched by the participation of church scholars and singers is schedualed to be held on a monthly basis. As Like Birhanat Tekle Mariam Mengesha, head of the sponsoring church, has indicated, it is good news that such a spiritual program has been kicked off for such busy servants of the public.

It sis good that they have a forum suitable to hear the voice of God for it helps the good Mannered to remain as sound as they are and the unmannered, if any, to come to the right track, Like berhanat believes. He also underscored that teaching the taxi personnel amounts to teaching many in the society. His parish church is doning its level best to the fruition of the assembly and will in due course contact pertinent fathers to make it stand well on its feet, he promised.

Asked to forward has own comment on the gathering, chairperson of the sponsoring Sunday School, Belete Tegegn, has indicated that there are taxi personnel who are registered as members of the Sunday school. It was these members who, having noticed the gap in feeding feelow personnel with the word of God, made the suggestion to the Sunday School to take the initiative in Organising such as assembly. So, by giving them the responsibility to coordinate the interested, we have managed to launch the assembly, Belete said. The Sunday School will do its level best to nurture the gathering in the word of God, the chairperson has reiterated.

Deacon Addis Gebre-medhin, a member of the Sunday School and coordinator of this newly heralded taxi personnel assembly, owns a taxi which he himself drives. As to him, he and his fellows have been urged to embark upon this holy venture to ransom the souls of thousands of taxi personnel of whom a good number are mannerless inspite of their Orthodoxy. The rampant move to commit sheep-stealing within the taxi personnel has been another push as to Deacon Addis.

The protestants are restlessly working to detach many of us from the mother church, says the Deacon. So, in order not to be preys of sucha heresy, we have launched this forum of getting closer to the bosom of our own mother Church, Deacon Addis explaions. To see thousands of his fellows being fed with the unadulterated holy word of the Lord is, as to him, a source of immense satisfaction. He believes that this forum will nurture his fellows well and make them serve their own society with the due ethics. Though it has been organized for taxi personnel, Deacon Addis has indicated that anyone interested could attend it irrespective of his/her profession.

Fantahun Agza is a young taxi conductor. He was asked to comment on the benefit he expects to reap from the spiritual gathering. ² In the Defense Force-wingate line where I am working, there are many heretic activities. The agents take every opportunity to nar us and make us denounce our creed. If we are cultivated in the teachings of our church, it means we can guard our selves from such messengers of the Devil. The forum will help up to leave aside the wicked way we may be in and, if we are marching in the way pleasant to the Lord, it will make us even stronger, Fantahun says.

As the organisiers have indicated, the next month's program is on 18 march 2007 and they have invited all interested to attend it at the petros we paulos Church.

Church says millennium preparation is reaching conclusion

The preparation which the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church has been undergoing to colourfully celebrate the dawn of the third millennium of the country is reaching conclusion.

According to Nibure ID Elias Abrha, deputy general manager of the patriarchate office, it was before a yerar and a helf that the church established an office to take care of the preapation. The church will, during the ceremony, present to Ethiopia and the world at large the spiritual and historical realities it has passed through in the outgoing millennia, Nibure Id says. The preparation is said to faill in three categories.

As part of the first category, a book which recounts the history of the church in the two millennia will be availed to readers. In the second caterogy, an exhibition which visualizes what is presented in writhing will be held and this, it was learnt, will be open for viewers for a number of monthes. In the third part, symposiums will be held and distinguished scholars will present papers on issues that have to do with the church.

In a related development, logos of various sorts are said to be under preparation as part of the millennium ceremony. Like-Tiguhan Zerihun Mulatu, and executive member of the Church's millennium preparation committee, has indicated that the Logs, of which one is the icon of St. Yared the hymnist, will be put up in ten main streets of the capital. Thirteen books which treat various issues will also be ready for consum ption, he added.

Asked if there were problems encountered in the millennium preparation, Nibure Id Elias has said that the bottleneck has been the financial constraint. The vastness of the preparation has made the budget allocated quite incompatible with the outlay, the deputy general manager underscores. He has requested the faithful to make their own contributions by way of sharing this burbed and making the ceremony a success.

As regards the confusion as to what to call the ceremony as per the churches calendar, members of the church's council of scholars, Like-siyuman Re'ade Asres and Merabe biluy seife-sellassie yohannes, and Bible society's East African Advisor on translations, Dr. Kesis Mikre-sellassie Gebre-Ammanuel, have said that some mass media and individuals have been wrongly giving the ceremony different names. As to the scholars, it shall be called second millennium and all of us shall observe it with its right name.
