Health and Educational Institutions Inaugurated

The West and South West Shoa Diocese have inaugurated health and educational institutions it opened with an outlay of over one million Birr.

According to His Grace Abune Epiphanios, archbishiop of the diocese, a primary school has been opened in the town of Ambo on ten-thousand hectars of land. In Woliso, a Church school and a health center of twenty one thousand hectares of land have been opened.

His Grace has thanked the Japanese Embassy, the Australian Embassy (through which benevolent individuals were found) and an individual residing in America.

It was they who covered the finance needed, archbishop has indicated.

A Documentary Film on Monasteries

The Audiovisual and Arts center of Mahbere Kidusan has produced a documentary film on four monasteries of Lake Tana, namely, Tana Kirkos, Abune Betre-Mariam, Ura Kidane Mihret and Azewa Mariam.

Part two of the film, which is made on five others, will be available soon, Firehiwot Gizachew, center head, has indicated.

Professionals who attended the inauguration of the one-hour long film have made suggestions which we take as valuable inputs for our future work, Firehiwot said.

The film will be made available to all interested in a VCD at a reasonable price.

Holy Synod asked to issue a directive

The Holy Synod has been asked to issue directives to Churches and ministers to read and quote verses from the newly published Amharic Bible whenever they have to give services in Amharic.

This was indicated by his Grace Abune Yishak, General Manager of the Patriarchate office and Archbishop of the Bale Diocese, during the ceremony organized to inaugurate the newly published Amharic Bible.

His Grace has expressed his satisfaction in at last seeing the new translation because it has, as to him, based itself on the Ge’ez version.

Priest Doctor Mikre-Selassie Gabre-Amanuel, advisor of the scholars who translated the scripture, has on his part expressed that the work has taken fourteen years during which the holy Patriarch, Abune-Paulos, has been a driving force.

He has also thanked the tireless translators, and the Bible society which assisted the work a lot.
