Explosive attack waged against St. Georges, Dire Dawa

Fanatics have attacked the st. George’s church of Dire Dawa on Nov.5, 2008.

According to Lique- birhanat Kelemework Bimrew, church’s head, the attack was made by means of house-made explosives at night / about 2:00 Am /. The blast has not caused a full fledged damage as the attackers have intended.

It has only broken glasses of the tower and scorched the church’s walls, it was learnt.

Though security guards were swift to report the attack to the police, o one turned up to the site until the next morning.

The police have arrested five suspected individuals. It has also taken pieces from the broken glass for investigation.

According to lique-birhant kelemework, police and the army has aborted two Year ago an attempt by some six hundred Moslems to burn the church in to ashes.

The repeated attack has made the parishes a life uneasy, the church’s head has said.
