Place for Bishop Office purchased
Translated by Derib
His Grace Abune Abraham, Bishop of the Diocese of Washington DC and the environs, announced that the Office of Bishop of the Diocese of Washington DC and its environs will be open soon. His grace stated that the diocese has purchased an office, a work that took more than a year to complete and that has been successfully concluded with the help of the Grace of God, intercession of St. Mary and the prayer of the fathers. The purchase put the diocese in equal footings with the Diocese of New York and its environs, which was established 50 years ago.
The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church established its first diocese outside Ethiopia on Nehase 28, 1943 E.C. (September 3, 1951) when His Holiness Abune Basilios assigned Abune Filipos Bishop of Jerusalem.
It is to be recalled that two years later another diocese was established in the West. After the Holy Synod made a decision in 1992 E.C. (2000), bishops have been assigned to America, Caribbean Islands, Western Europe and East Africa.
